“He absolutely whipped me.”

That was all I could respond to the guys back at the docks when they asked me how my fight with a 200lb tarpon went earlier that day.

I was fishing with a 4000 series reel because I only anticipated hooking into some of juvenile and younger tarpon that I had seen in the area the day before.

But after jumping a few tarpon in the 50 pound range, it happened.

My 7.5ft rod almost bent in half when the beast slammed the pinfish on the end of the line...

I don’t recall ever hearing line shooting out of a reel that fast, and before you know it, I had to crank up the boat and start chasing this beast for what seemed like a few miles.

Then finally, after almost a two hour grueling fight, I landed the biggest tarpon of my life.

After a couple of quick pictures and a long revival process, the beautiful Silver King slowly swam off to live another day.

As for me, I couldn’t feel my arms… but the pain was worth every muscle ache in my body...

And instead of mounting the record fish for my wall, I had him placed on the back of this Salt Strong shirt instead so I could wear him around and show him off everywhere I go.
